ALBA-TCP Commemorates and Reaffirms the Enduring Relevance of Fidel Castro’s Anti-imperialist Legacy

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) commemorated the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2026) this Thursday, extolling him as an emblematic figure of the Cuban Revolution and a reference point for the emancipation process in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In a statement released on its official platforms by the bloc’s executive secretary, Venezuelan Rander Peña, via Telegram, the member countries reaffirmed the relevance of the Cuban leader’s political and ethical thought in the current international context.

“Fidel embodies the conscience, will, and action of a historical era. He transformed Cuba’s resistance into a universal example of dignity and dedicated his life to the cause of the humble,” the official statement reads.

ALBA added that, one hundred years after his birth, his life, thought, and work stand as a moral and political legacy for peoples who struggle for their dignity, their sovereignty, and their inalienable right to build their own destiny.

Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez: Architects of ALBA

The statement recalled that Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez founded the organization in December 2004, conceived as an alliance of free peoples, united by cooperation, complementarity, social justice, and solidarity.

ALBA-TCP recognized both figures as the architects of an integration model based on solidarity and mutual cooperation, and noted that the bloc constitutes one of the highest expressions of the Cuban leader’s strategic vision and his conviction that only unity can guarantee the region’s definitive independence.

The commemoration comes amid the tightening of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, as well as a policy of energy strangulation promoted by the Trump administration.
