Houthis target Yemen’s western coast with 14 missiles
Houthi fighters targeted populated areas along Yemen’s western coast in Taiz and Hodeidah provinces with 14 ballistic missiles and drone attacks, the Yemeni Armed Forces Media Center said Thursday.
The center, citing a military source, reported that air defenses intercepted several drones on the Taiz front, as well as others over districts along the western coast, Anadolu Agency reported.
The source praised the “high combat readiness” of the Yemeni armed forces, saying that morale remained high and military units operating across different sectors continued to maintain a high level of vigilance and preparedness.
The ballistic missiles did not strike positions held by forces deployed along the western coast, the source said.
It added that Yemeni forces had suppressed sources of hostile fire and threats in the Al-Kadaha sector of the Al-Barh front in western Taiz province, amid reciprocal ground clashes in the area.
Yemen has experienced a relative lull since April 2022 in a conflict that began nearly 12 years ago between government forces and the Houthis, who have controlled the capital, Sanaa, as well as other cities and provinces since September 2014.
Fighting has resumed in several provinces in recent weeks, including Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea and Taiz, as Yemen continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and economic crises.
A Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government backs government forces, while Iran is accused of supporting the Houthis. The Houthis announced a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia in July.
