Record in China: Nanchang logistics hub surpasses 10,000 rail-sea freight trips
Nanchang International Land Port, a major logistics hub in Jiangxi Province in eastern China, has surpassed the milestone of 10,000 rail-sea freight trips for foreign trade. By 31 July 2026, the logistics hub had handled 10,061 such trips, according to local authorities.
Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi Province and one of its main economic and industrial centres. Located inland, the city relies heavily on rail infrastructure to connect businesses in the region with seaports and, through them, with international markets.
Nanchang International Land Port provides precisely this link between rail and maritime transport. Goods from Jiangxi can be transported by rail to coastal ports, where they are transferred to maritime services bound for international destinations.
The port’s first rail-sea service was launched on 15 February 2017, connecting Xiangtang in Nanchang County with Yantian Port in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
Since then, the network has expanded steadily. The hub now operates 12 rail-sea routes and 13 routes for China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains.
Its services currently reach 134 countries and regions, while its rail-sea connections include major Chinese ports such as Ningbo, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Nanchang strengthens its role in China’s foreign trade
The growth in rail-sea transport is part of the wider expansion of the logistics hub. By the end of July 2026, Nanchang International Land Port had operated a total of 10,563 foreign trade freight trains.
Together, these trains transported 695,800 loaded containers, carrying goods worth more than USD 18 billion.
The hub’s activity has continued to grow this year. Between January and July 2026, it handled 1,212 foreign trade freight trains, an increase of 8.03% compared with the same period last year. According to local authorities, this was the highest number recorded in Jiangxi Province during the first seven months of the year.
The expansion of the network has also been accompanied by measures aimed at reducing logistics times. Earlier this year, Nanchang International Land Port operated the first freight train from Jiangxi to use a new customs supervision model for multimodal export transport. The new system can reduce logistics processing time by one to three days.
This year, 17.2% of the hub’s rail-sea shipments have been carried out using a single-document transport system.
The logistics hub also plays an important role in Nanchang’s automotive industry. It works with the Nanchang Xiaolan Economic and Technological Development Zone, one of the region’s main automotive production areas.
During the first seven months of 2026, 82,100 finished vehicles and vehicle kits were exported through Nanchang International Land Port, an increase of 43.17% compared with the same period in 2025.
