Half a Million Displaced Yemenis Receive EU-Funded Cash Assistance

Aden — A recent humanitarian report revealed that nearly 500,000 internally displaced people in Yemen have received emergency cash assistance to help cover their basic needs, funded by the European Union.

According to the Cash Consortium of Yemen (CCY), the program has supported displaced families across the country since April 2025, including more than 201,000 women and girls and 19,000 people with disabilities.

The EU-funded initiative, through its Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), provides temporary relief enabling families to pay for food, rent, healthcare, debt repayment, and education, while reducing the risk of negative coping strategies such as child labor or skipping meals.

The report also highlighted the EU-backed “Amal” program, designed to help families transition from emergency support to self-reliance through vocational training, agricultural support, livestock rearing, and small business development.

CCY stressed the need for humanitarian efforts in Yemen to move beyond short-term relief toward sustainable investments bridging the gap between emergency aid and long-term recovery.

We call on the international community to provide flexible support that allows vulnerable families to rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and self-sufficiency not just survive,” the consortium said.
