Gabon Expands Digital Access With Public Wi-Fi and Digital Driving Licence in Makokou
The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation, through the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies (ANINF), has deployed two public Wi-Fi spaces at Place de l’Indépendance and the Alexandre Sambat Stadium.
Gabon is expanding digital access and the digitisation of public services in Makokou with the deployment of new digital infrastructure aimed at improving internet connectivity and supporting modernised government services.
The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation, through the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies (ANINF), has deployed two public Wi-Fi spaces at Place de l’Indépendance and the Alexandre Sambat Stadium.
The facilities are designed to make internet access more accessible to residents while helping reduce the country’s digital divide.
Makokou is also hosting a registration system for digitised driving licences, as part of the government’s efforts to modernise administrative services.
To support the enrolment centre, ANINF installed the technical infrastructure required for its operations, including a local area network (LAN), dedicated internet connectivity and equipment to ensure reliable power supply.
The agency also deployed dedicated electrical circuits, inverters and voltage regulators to improve the availability and continuity of the installations.
According to the ministry, the infrastructure will provide the technical foundation needed to operate the driving licence registration system and support the implementation of the digital driving licence programme.
The deployment involved several weeks of work by ANINF engineers and technicians to install and operationalise the various systems.
The government said the initiatives reflect its broader digitalisation agenda, combining improved internet access with the digitisation of administrative procedures to make public services more accessible and efficient for citizens across the country.
The projects were implemented as part of activities marking Liberation Day in Makokou.
