Egyptian League: Round 3 delivers tight wins

CAIRO — The third round of the Egyptian Premier League opened with three tight games, as Zamalek and Pyramids FC kept their strong starts going while NBE Club finally picked up their first win of the season.

Zamalek beat Suez Petrojet 2-1, Pyramids edged Al-Masry 1-0 to make it three wins from three, while NBE Club claimed a narrow victory over Asyut Petroleum.

Pyramids FC 1-0 Al-Masry

Pyramids FC beat Al-Masry of Port Said 1-0 at New Suez Stadium, with defender Ahmed Samy scoring the only goal in the 11th minute.

The win took Pyramids to nine points, while Al-Masry remains on six.

Zamalek 2-1 Petrojet

Zamalek began the third round with a 2-1 win over Suez Petrojet at Cairo International Stadium.

Hossam Ashraf put Zamalek ahead in the 40th minute, heading in a cross from Angolan forward Chico Banza. Midfielder Mohamed El-Sayed doubled the lead in the 63rd minute.

Petrojet pulled one back in the 90th minute when Badr Moussa converted from the penalty spot, but Zamalek held on for the win.

The result took Zamalek to seven points, while Petrojet remains on one.

NBE Club 1-0 Asyut Petroleum

NBE Club claimed their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Asyut Petroleum at Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

The only goal came in the 74th minute when NBE centre-back Mohamed Nasr fired a powerful shot that took a deflection off Asyut Petroleum defender Mahmoud Aly and ended up in his own net.

The result gives NBE Club their first three points after losing their opening two matches, while Asyut Petroleum stays on two points.
