Hossam Hassan found himself in need of medical attention after trying to intervene in a fight between his first and second wives.
Hassan sparked controversy with his comments about Argentina and FIFA after Egypt’s heartbreaking 3-2 loss in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup.
But now, the Egyptian national team player-turned-coach is in the headlines for his personal life, with one story emerging about his marriage.

Hossam Hassan faints during two wives’ fight, divorces first wife afterwards
Reports emerged from Al Arabiya that Hossam Hassan collapsed while trying to de-escalate an altercation between his first and second wives, Howaida El-Gharbawy and Dina Mostafa.
The situation took place at Porto Marina, a luxury resort in Egypt. El-Gharbawy and Mostafa reportedly got into a physical altercation following a heated argument that created quite the commotion.
The altercation resulted in both women sustaining injuries after the situation was contained thanks to timely security intervention.
However, the stressful nature of the incident caused Hassan to faint while trying to break the two apart prior to getting help from security.
The incident took a heavy toll on Hassan, who has since decided to divorce his first wife, Howaida El-Gharbawy, as a result of the altercation.
The attorney for Hassan’s second wife, Dina Mostafa, confirmed the news of the divorce to the press. However, this isn’t the first time that the pair have split up.

After getting married in 2012 and raising three kids together, Hassan and Howaida separated briefly in 2022, only to reconcile within days.
Hassan married Mostafa in 2015, while he was still married to Howaida. This is due to Egyptian law, which states that a man can marry up to four women, so long as he informs any current and future wives about his decision to do so.
Egyptian law also decrees that a woman cannot remarry for three months from the time of a divorce. However, the men are not bound by such law.
This incident comes just a month after Hassan led Egypt to the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup, where they lost to eventual finalists Argentina in one of the most controversial games of the season.
After the game, Hassan insinuated that the game’s dubious refereeing decisions that went against Egypt came as a result of FIFA’s desire to see Lionel Messi and Argentina back in the World Cup final.
These comments understandably drew a polarising reaction, as some felt he was not accepting the loss in the spirit of the game. Others believed he was making a valid point about FIFA favouring big teams.
