Egypt plans railway link between Salloum and Benghazi

Egypt has announced plans to extend its railway network from the border city of Salloum to Benghazi, Libya, as part of efforts to strengthen cross-border transportation and establish Egypt as a regional logistics hub.

According to Youm7, the project includes the rehabilitation of a 260-kilometer railway line between Samalut and Salloum inside Egypt, with plans to extend the line to Benghazi at a later stage.

The project is part of Egypt’s strategy to expand cross-border rail networks and enhance the movement of goods and passengers with neighboring countries, while supporting economic and logistical integration across the region. Egypt is also pursuing a separate railway project aimed at establishing a rail connection with Sudan.
