Dead and injured in Russia after Ukrainian drone attack

At least two people were killed and three injured in the Russian region of Tula as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks, the regional Governor Dmitry Milyaev said on Telegram on Friday.

A total of 26 drones were shot down over the area south of Moscow alone, he said.

Authorities said targets in the Volgograd region, more than 900 kilometres south-east of Moscow, were also attacked with missiles. Two men were injured in the regional capital Volgograd, they said. There was damage to a residential building and missile debris fell on a company’s premises, they added.

Fire at logistics centre on the Volga

In Saratov, which is also on the Volga River further north, drones set a logistics centre belonging to online retailer Ozon on fire, the company said. No one was injured, Ozon said on Telegram. The mail-order retailer said it had suspended its operations in the Saratov region for now.

Overall, more than 770 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight, according to the Russian military. At the end of August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tasked his armed forces with attacking the Russian hinterland daily with up to 1,000 drones.

Ukraine has been resisting a Russian invasion since February 2022 and for several months has also been systematically attacking faraway targets in Russia as part of its defence effort.
