NPFL Shifts Matchday Three Fixtures for Rangers, Rivers United, Shooting Stars

The Nigeria Premier Football League has rescheduled three matchday three fixtures involving clubs still active in continental competitions, giving Rivers United, Rangers, Shooting Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors extra breathing room as they juggle domestic and CAF commitments this season.

Rangers, who are through to the next round of the CAF Champions League after a shootout win over AS Sobemap, will now face Nasarawa United on Thursday, September 17 rather than the originally planned Sunday, September 13 date.

The shift gives the Enugu side more time to recover before turning their attention back to the league.

Rivers United’s home clash with Warri Wolves has also been pushed back, moving from Saturday, September 12 to Wednesday, September 16, as the club continues to balance league duties with its own CAF campaign.

The biggest change affects Shooting Stars, whose meeting with Kano Pillars has been shifted well beyond the current matchday, from Sunday, September 13 all the way to Wednesday, October 7.

That gap suggests the Oluyole Warriors may have a particularly congested run of continental fixtures ahead that the league is working around.

Every other matchday three game not involving these four clubs will proceed as originally planned this weekend.

The rescheduling reflects a recurring challenge for the NPFL: coordinating its domestic calendar around clubs representing Nigeria in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, where match dates are often fixed by the continental body and leave clubs and the league scrambling to adjust around them.
