Danbury to Celebrate Jamaican Independence Day with Flag-Raising

According to a release from the City of Danbury, the city is inviting everyone to come together this weekend to celebrate Jamaican Independence Day with a special flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.

The event is set for Saturday, August 1, at 10 a.m. at Heritage Plaza outside Danbury City Hall, located at 155 Deer Hill Avenue. Mayor Roberto Alves will be joined by members of the West Indies Community Club as the Jamaican flag is raised in recognition of Jamaica’s independence and the many contributions the Jamaican community has made to Danbury over the years.

The ceremony is open to everyone, whether you have Jamaican roots or you’re simply interested in learning more about one of the many cultures that help make Danbury the unique city it is today. Expect a celebration centered on community, heritage, and the pride that comes with honoring a nation whose influence can be felt far beyond the Caribbean.
