Bility Accuses Gov’t of Neglecting District #7

By S. Matthew M. Quoi, Jr.

KPATUO TOWNSHIP, Nimba County, July 7, 2026: Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility has accused the Unity Party-led government of neglecting his district despite receiving overwhelming support from residents during the 2023 elections.

Speaking Saturday while presenting his annual legislative report, Bility questioned whether District #7 had benefited from national budget allocations, arguing that residents have yet to see any major government-funded development project since the current administration took office.

The lawmaker said the district strongly supported the government at the polls but has not received the development benefits residents expected.

“You voted for this government, but it has failed to provide the development our district deserves. Everything you see here today has come from my own resources. The government has done nothing for this district,” Bility told the gathering.

According to him, most of the visible development initiatives currently underway in District #7 have been financed through his own efforts rather than by the central government.

He also disclosed that he was neither consulted nor officially informed about the ongoing construction of a civic compound in the district by the county administration.

Beyond his criticism of the government, Bility expressed concern over what he described as growing divisions within the Nimba Legislative Caucus, warning that disunity among lawmakers is undermining the county’s development.

He called on Nimba’s political leaders to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the county.

Bility said he remains in contact with lawmakers across party lines and intends to continue engaging Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung to convene a reconciliation meeting aimed at restoring unity among Nimba’s leaders.

He argued that, as the highest-ranking elected official from Nimba County, the Vice President has a responsibility to promote dialogue and cooperation among the county’s political leadership.

The District #7 lawmaker also renewed his demand for a comprehensive audit of the Nimba County Administration, insisting that residents have a right to know how public resources are being managed.

“We want the people of Nimba to know how their money is being used. An audit will bring transparency and accountability to the administration,” he said.

Turning to the 2029 presidential election, Bility reaffirmed his ambition to contest for Liberia’s highest office, declaring that he believes he has the leadership qualities needed to move the country forward.

“I believe I am the best person to lead Liberia,” he declared.

Bility also criticized the government’s response to the country’s drug crisis, describing current efforts as ineffective.

He called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to suspend the heads of all security institutions, arguing that such action would strengthen accountability and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes.

Despite his presidential ambition, Bility assured constituents that his immediate priority remains fulfilling the development promises he made to the people of District #7.

“If I fail to complete the promises I made to the people of District #7, then don’t look me in my face in 2029,” he said.

The annual legislative report provided residents with updates on Bility’s work in the Legislature, ongoing development projects in the district and his positions on major county and national issues.
