Bihina Sends Cameroon Into Wafcon Final

According to BBC News, Michaely Bihina starred as Cameroon beat hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties after their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final ended 0-0 following extra time in Rabat.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper saved Fatima Tagnaout’s 118th-minute penalty, awarded after a VAR review found Cameroon defender Maryam Nyadjou had caught Sakina Ouzraoui in the face with her arm. Bihina then denied Kenza Chapelle, Maryame Atiq and Ouzraoui in the shootout.

Teenage defender Nyadjou converted the decisive spot kick to secure Cameroon’s place in Sunday’s final against Malawi, who beat Algeria 3-1 earlier on Wednesday. Cameroon return to the Wafcon final for the first time since losing to Nigeria as hosts in 2016.

Morocco had chances in a tight contest at Moulay Hassan Stadium. Sanaa Mssoudy struck the post in the 14th minute and later hit the side-netting, while Imane Saoud, Michaela Abam and Atiq also had opportunities. Morocco, runners-up in 2022 and the delayed 2024 tournament, again missed out on a first continental title.

Cameroon’s route has been notable after the side were knocked out in qualifying, only reaching the finals through their world ranking when the Confederation of African Football expanded the tournament to 16 teams. Coach Valentine Nguele, appointed in June, will now prepare her team for Malawi and the threat of Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga.
