Angola Named Indiana’s Most Charming Small Town By AFAR

News Release

ANGOLAAngola’s combination of lakes, historic storefronts and college-town energy has earned it recognition as Indiana’s most charming town by national travel publication AFAR.

The publication selected one town in each state for its list, limiting eligibility to communities with fewer than 25,000 residents. Angola qualified and stood out among other Indiana destinations for its mix of outdoor recreation and small-town attractions.

Located amid a cluster of scenic lakes, Angola draws visitors looking to paddle, fish or explore the shoreline. Nearby Pokagon State Park adds to the region’s appeal with wooded trails, lake access and outdoor activities available throughout the year.

The city’s historic character is especially evident along Maumee Street, an old commercial corridor lined with vintage shops. Visitors can browse shelves filled with collectibles, curiosities and other items that reflect the area’s past.

Trine University also contributes to Angola’s atmosphere, bringing sports, entertainment and dining to the community. The university’s presence gives the city a steady stream of activity while complementing its quieter historic and recreational attractions.

Together, Angola’s access to lakes and nature, historic downtown shopping and university-centered culture helped distinguish it from other Indiana communities considered for the AFAR list.
