Al-Burhan inspects army readiness in Blue Nile State
Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan inspected the readiness of military personnel in Blue Nile State in the country’s southeast. He visited the city of Damazin, the state capital and the location of the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division.
As Anadolu Agency reports, al-Burhan reviewed the division’s forces and received information on the security and operational situation in the region. He called for raising the level of readiness and vigilance, strengthening discipline and combat readiness, and continuing to carry out tasks in accordance with military plans and directives.
Visit to a military hospital
During the trip, al-Burhan also visited a military hospital in Damazin. He was briefed on the condition of wounded servicemen and patients, as well as on the institution’s work. The chairman of the Sovereignty Council stated the army command’s commitment to providing personnel with the necessary care.
The commander of the 4th Infantry Division, Major General Ismail al-Tayib, said the visit strengthened the unit’s readiness to carry out its tasks. According to him, the division’s forces are fully prepared to fulfill military duties, ensure the security of the region, and protect civilians.

Situation in the state
The visit took place amid intensified fighting in Blue Nile State between the army, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and their allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). On Tuesday, the first contingent of joint forces from armed movements allied with the army arrived in the state.
Earlier, the army reported deploying an elite brigade linked to the General Intelligence Service to the Bakori direction. The RSF, for their part, said they had captured the Bakori and Sarkam military bases southeast of Damazin. The army also reported downing an “enemy” drone that, according to its information, crossed the border from Ethiopia.
The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued since April 2023. According to estimates by the UN and international organizations, it has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced around 13 million people.
