Zimbabwe’s Rural Teachers Cut Workweek to 3 Days Over Low Pay
Teachers in rural areas, under the aegis of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), have announced they will report for duty only three days a week, citing low salaries and poor working conditions.
In a notice to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the union said teachers will dedicate the remaining two working days to other income-generating activities to supplement their earnings.
“This development has been necessitated by the unresolved salary crisis that has caused public service teachers to remain incapacitated,” the group said.
