Zimbabwe Come Out On Top Against Namibia In T20I Tri-Series

Zimbabwe held their nerve to beat Namibia by five runs in the third game of the T20I tri-series at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Monday. Ryan Burl played a key role with an unbeaten fifty, while Brad Evans made an impact in both departments to help his side secure the win.

Namibia opted to bowl after winning the toss, but the move failed to produce the desired result. Zimbabwe’s batters made the most of their 20 overs and finished on 195/6, giving the hosts a challenging target to chase.

Zimbabwe made a good start with the bat as Brian Bennett and Ben Curran added 64 runs for the first wicket. Their partnership ended on the last ball of the powerplay when Bennett was dismissed for 32 off 21 balls, including six fours.

Zimbabwe then found themselves in trouble as they lost four more wickets. Curran was also dismissed for 38, leaving the visitors at 101/6 after 12 overs.

Burl came in at No. 5 and was joined by Evans after the fall of the sixth wicket. The pair put Zimbabwe back on track with a 94-run unbeaten stand for the seventh wicket, helping the team finish with a strong total.

Burl was Zimbabwe’s top scorer, finishing unbeaten on 57 from 32 balls. His innings included six fours and one six. Evans also played a quick knock, scoring 34 from 24 balls with four boundaries, two of them sixes.

In the second innings, Namibia came very close to chasing down Zimbabwe’s target of 196. Zane Green and Alexander Busing-Volschenk put together a huge partnership for the seventh wicket, but their efforts were not enough as Namibia were all out for 190 in 20 overs.

The two batters came together in the 12th over when Namibia were struggling at 76/6. They took charge from there and added 110 runs, putting Zimbabwe’s bowlers under serious pressure.

Their partnership gave Namibia a real chance of winning, with the hosts needing just 16 runs from the last over. Both Green and Busing-Volschenk were still at the crease at that point.

Zimbabwe’s rising all-rounder Evans then produced a thrilling last over to seal the victory, restricting Namibia to just 190 in the second innings. He was also named Player of the Match for his cameo in the first innings that allowed Zimbabwe to post a strong total.

The win was Zimbabwe’s first in the ongoing T20I tri-series. The victory moved them level on two points with Namibia and South Africa, but they remain third because they have the lowest net run rate among the three sides.
