Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemen Airways (Yemenia) announced the cancellation of one of its scheduled flights between Seiyun and Cairo today, Saturday, due to the ongoing fuel crisis facing the aviation sector in the country, in a new indication of the repercussions of supply shortages on air transport movement.
The company’s official spokesperson, Hatem Al-Shaabi, explained that the flight was canceled as a result of the unavailability of the necessary quantities of aviation fuel at Seiyun Airport. He pointed out that the crisis comes amid exceptional challenges related to fuel scarcity inside Yemen and in some countries of the region, which has directly impacted the company’s operational activities and a number of its flights.
Al-Shaabi emphasized that the company is continuing, in coordination with the relevant government authorities, intensive efforts to address the crisis and secure operational needs, in a way that helps reschedule flights and restore the regularity of air traffic as soon as possible.
Yemen Airways offered its apologies to the passengers affected by the flight cancellation, stressing its keenness to continue providing its services and to minimize the impact of the crisis on travelers, despite the difficult operational conditions it faces.
The company had previously warned that the continued fuel shortage at Yemeni airports might force adjustments to its operational schedule, including the cancellation or rescheduling of some flights, in order to maintain a minimum level of air operations in accordance with available capabilities.
During the recent period, some of the company’s aircraft were forced to stop at Jeddah and Djibouti airports to refuel, as a result of the acute shortage of aviation fuel inside Yemen.
For its part, the Yemen Petroleum Company attributed the fuel crisis to disruptions in global supply chains and rising costs of shipping and maritime insurance, in light of the tensions witnessed in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, and the resulting additional pressures on the energy and transport sectors.
