Yemen Welcomes UN Security Council Condemnation of Iranian Flights and Houthi Attacks

Aden – Yemen’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday welcomed the UN Security Council’s statement condemning unauthorized Iranian aircraft landings in Sana’a and Hodeidah airports, as well as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping.

“We welcome the press statement issued by the Security Council on Yemen, including its condemnation of Iranian aircraft violating Yemeni sovereignty by landing at Sana’a and Hodeidah airports without government authorization,” the ministry said.

The statement also praised the Council’s denunciation of Houthi assaults on Saudi Arabia and strikes targeting commercial vessels.

On Friday, Council members condemned the unauthorized landings of aircraft in Sana’a International Airport on July 3 and in Hodeidah Airport on July 13, calling them violations of international civil aviation rules. 

The Council stressed that all flights to Yemeni airports must be coordinated with and approved by the Yemeni government a position the Foreign Ministry endorsed.

The Yemeni government had earlier announced it targeted Sana’a’s runway on July 13 to prevent a Mahan Air plane from landing after denying it entry into Yemeni airspace. The aircraft later diverted to Hodeidah.

The Security Council also condemned Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia since July 13 and their assaults on commercial vessels since July 22.

Yemen’s Foreign Ministry said the continuation of Houthi attacks and threats to regional security highlight the urgent need to halt the flow of weapons, technology, and expertise to the group, while strengthening state institutions to protect sovereignty, territorial waters, and international maritime routes.
