Yemen : STC Condemns Terrorist Attack Targeting Al Arabiya Journalist in Mukalla

Aden — The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted journalist Mohammed Al-Eidha, correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels, on Wednesday evening in the city of Mukalla, Hadramout province. Al-Eidha was injured when an improvised explosive device detonated against him.

In a statement issued by its official spokesperson, Anwar Al-Tamimi, the STC described the assassination attempt as a dangerous indicator of the resurgence of terrorist groups in Mukalla and the Hadramout coast, following years of relative stability after the liberation of the region from Al-Qaeda in 2016.

The statement recalled the wave of assassinations that plagued Hadramout between 1994 and 2016, claiming the lives of hundreds of military and security personnel, before the Hadrami Elite Forces succeeded in restoring security and stability.

It warned that the recent deterioration of security conditions and the dismantling of the Hadrami Elite Forces have created a fertile environment for extremist groups including Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and the Houthis to re-emerge under various banners.

The STC stressed that the attack on journalist Al-Eidha is a grave alarm bell that necessitates urgent action to confront the growing terrorist threats and safeguard security and stability in Hadramout and across the southern governorates.

Concluding its statement, the STC extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of Mohammed Al-Eidha and his colleagues in the media community, praying for God’s mercy upon him and eternal peace in paradise.
