Yemen : Shooting Near Aden Governor’s Residence Leaves Several Dead, Including Syrian Doctor, Wife

Aden — Several people, including a Syrian doctor and his wife, were killed in a shooting incident early Friday near the residence of the governor of Yemen’s interim capital Aden, in the Al-Dareen area, according to a statement from Aden’s Security Department.

A security source said one of the guards assigned to protect the governor’s home opened fire indiscriminately, initially killing a fellow guard and injuring others.

Security forces quickly intervened to contain the situation, but the assailant continued shooting, resulting in the death of a soldier from Al-Dareen police and injuries to a police officer, a member of the Facilities Protection Forces, and a mosque guard who was critically wounded and transferred to intensive care.

The source added that Syrian physician Dr. Samah Ahmed Ahsan and his wife were also killed after being caught in the crossfire near the scene.

Security forces eventually surrounded the suspect and engaged him, killing him at the site. One National Security soldier was injured during the operation.

Authorities confirmed that security units remain deployed in the area, enforcing a cordon while investigations continue into the circumstances of the incident.
