The cities of Mukalla and Marib witnessed protest vigils organized by dozens of journalists and human rights activists to denounce the killing of journalist Mohammed Ayedha, correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, and to call for stronger protections for media workers.
In Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province in eastern Yemen, journalists and representatives of civil society organizations staged a silent vigil, raising Ayedha’s photos.
A statement issued from the gathering urged local and security authorities to expedite investigations into the attack, bring those responsible to justice, and appealed to international organizations to help secure a safe environment for journalism.
Simultaneously, journalists in Marib province in the northeast held a protest organized by the National Organization of Yemeni Media Professionals (Sada).
In its statement, the group revealed documentation of more than 90 killings of journalists and media workers in Yemen since the outbreak of the war, including 32 murders in 2025 and two killings during the first half of 2026.
The organization stressed that these figures place Yemen among the most dangerous environments for journalism worldwide.
