Yemen: Airstrikes Target Houthi Positions in Western Taiz

TAIZ – Yemeni sources reported Saturday morning that airstrikes struck Houthi positions in western Taiz, amid ongoing battles between government forces and the group.

According to the sources, three air raids hit sites recently seized by the Houthis in al‑Kadha, Maqbanah, and Jabal Habashi. Government troops reportedly retook two positions after losing them the previous day, while three other sites fell to the Houthis in the al‑Barh and al‑Kadha sectors.

Military reinforcements have arrived in western Taiz and the Red Sea coast to bolster government defenses against Houthi attacks. The National Resistance’s military media said its forces launched a counteroffensive south of al‑Jarrahi, supported by units from the Giants Brigades.

Since Thursday, more than 120 people have been killed in clashes between the Houthis and government forces, in what observers describe as Yemen’s fiercest escalation in years.

Military sources added that government forces regained control of al‑Khazan hill, Makahana, and the village of al‑Jinan, and are now besieging Houthi fighters in Jabal Naaman, west of Taiz. The Houthis, meanwhile, are attempting to isolate the port city of Mokha and advance toward the Bab al‑Mandeb strait, seizing strategic high ground overlooking government positions and the Red Sea.
