Hodeidah – 5 people were injured after a lightning strike hit the villages of Bayt Akishr and Bayt Maghari in Hays district, south of Yemen’s Hodeidah province, amid heavy rainfall that also caused material damage, including the collapse of a house roof and the loss of livestock.
According to a preliminary report from the Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management in Hodeidah, four individuals were directly struck by lightning: Aisha Mohammed Bahiyya Hassan (55) and Abrar Abduljabbar Thabet Hassan (22) from Bayt Akishr, along with Rawda Amer Ahmed Hassan Mughini and Saada Mastour Yahya Abdullah Hayash from Bayt Maghari.
A fifth victim, Mohammed Saeed Ahmed Hussein Akish (62), was injured when his house collapsed during the storm.
All injured were transferred to Hays Rural Hospital for medical care, while specialized teams continue assessing the damage caused by the rains and lightning.
The Executive Unit urged a comprehensive field assessment and the rapid delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected families, particularly those who lost homes and livestock.
It also called for intensified awareness campaigns on safety measures to reduce risks from lightning and thunderstorms, as unstable weather conditions persist in the region.
