Yamal Strengthens Ballon d’Or Case As Spain…

Spain 4-1 Croatia

World champions Spain hammered Croatia 4-1 to make it two wins from two matches in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday evening.

Buoyed by a thrilling but hard-fought victory over England at Wembley, the World champions were out for a repeat performance and made the perfect start when Lamine Yamal curled in the far corner from a pass by Alex Baena.

Croatia got back in the tie after Dion Beljo headed in a clever cross from Ivan Perisic on the half-hour mark, although Marc Pubill restored Spain’s lead with a pin-point header from a cross by Yamal.

La Roja remained on the charge shortly after the break and extended their lead through another smart finish by Yamal

Neco Williams also got his name on the score-sheet in the 89th minute to round off an emphatic victory for the home side.

Czech Republic 0-2 England

England got their first win of the campaign of the Nations League following a 2-0 victory over Czech Republic.

The home nation battled to come in their own and were down to ten men just before the half-hour mark after Pavel Sulc saw red for a clumsy challenge down the touchline with calibre of players.

FC Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon gave the visitors the perfect start early in the second half with a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross. 

England skipper Harry Kane doubled the lead in the 69th minute by latching onto a loose ball in the box and firing home.

Scotland 0-3 Switzerland

Switzerland claimed a successive win in League B after thrashing Scotland 3-0 to go to the top of the group.

The Scots endured the worst start after 11 minutes after being reduced to ten men when Jack Hendry crashed into Dan Ndoye to concede a free-kick in a dangerous area, before Ricardo Rodriguez capitalised on the misfortune to break the deadlock a minute later.

The Swiss pulled further away and ensured the maximum points with quick fire goals from Nico Elvedi and Azeki Amdouni.

Slovenia 2-0 North Macedonia

Slovenia registered their first win in the group stages with a 2-0 North Macedonia on Tuesday night.

Following a goalless first half, the match opened up and the host took advantage when Sandri Lovric seized the lead shortly aftertimes with Aljosa Matko.
