The Democratic Republic of the Congo is making its first World Cup appearance since 1974. Its return to the sport’s grandest stage doubles as a global introduction to Lumumba Vea, the iconic fan whose real name is Michel Nkuka Mboladinga.
If the name doesn’t sound familiar, perhaps you’ve seen Vea’s presence at DR Congo games as it’s unmistakable. Vea stands motionless with his arm raised for the entirety of the game. He also dresses in a similar style to Patrice Lumumba, DR Congo’s first prime minister.

Vea was unable to make it in time for the match due to administrative and entry-clearance issues, according to the Nigerian newspaper Vanguard.
Will Lumumba Vea return for World Cup?
Vea is expected to attend at some point, as the Congolese government has reportedly intervened to help with his visa issue.
