Watch: New footage of Mali and Liel in Argentina

New footage published on Saturday night shows the moments following the discovery of Mali and Liel Yahalomi in Buenos Aires, after nearly a week of searches spanning multiple continents.

The video shows the two alongside Israel Police representative in South America, Superintendent Walter Kogan, who conducted the initial questioning after locating them on a bus in Argentina. In the footage, Mali can be seen smoking a cigarette alongside her daughter Liel and the police representative.

Police spokesman Aryeh Doron told Channel 12 News that the encounter between the two and Kogan was emotional.

“Walter says that the moment he met them, they became very emotional. They hugged him, and what moved them especially was when he told them: ‘An entire country is worried about you, even outside the bus.'”

Doron praised Kogan’s work, describing him as a veteran and experienced intelligence officer who carried out the mission professionally and ultimately located the two.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and believe it was preceded by extensive preparations. The investigation found that Mali withdrew approximately 14,000 euros in cash before leaving Israel and that the two deleted information and applications from their cellphones in an apparent attempt to make it more difficult to locate them.

The investigation also found that their journey began in the Czech Republic, where they purchased cellphones, continued through Austria and Germany, and from there they flew to Argentina.

According to suspicions, videos sent to the family from Vienna were only transmitted after the two had already left the city, in an attempt to create a false impression regarding their whereabouts.

Police are also investigating the motive behind their departure from Israel. One possibility being examined is that financial difficulties were behind the decision, though investigators have not yet reached a final conclusion and are examining additional possibilities. Authorities are also investigating information that money was taken from a relative and whether she was aware of their plans.

The two were located following an extensive investigation by Lahav 433 and the Intelligence Division, involving hundreds of investigators and intelligence personnel who worked for days to trace their escape route.

After it was determined that no criminal offense had been committed and that the two were not in danger, they were released.
