CLAIM
Video shows terrorist invasion of Oyo community.
FINDINGS
Findings by The FactCheckHub show that the claim is MISLEADING.
On May 15, 2026, gunmen attacked schools along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State and abducted pupils and teachers. The incident sparked widespread panic and renewed concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the state.
Families were thrown into uncertainty as they searched for information about the victims, while security agencies launched rescue operations. The situation quickly became a national concern, drawing attention from government officials, security agencies, and the public.
Amid current efforts to rescue the victims, social media platforms have been flooded with unverified claims, recycled footage, and misleading narratives, many of which falsely claim to show either the attackers or security responses linked to the incident.

The FactCheckHub subjected keyframes from the video to reverse image search, and the results show that the footage has been online since April 2026 and actually depicts an incident in Mali.
According to platforms such as LSI Africa and Modern Ghana, which previously shared the video, it shows footage filmed by a resident capturing armed fighters on motorcycles and in heavily armed vehicles in Bamako, Mali’s capital.
The video has no connection to any terrorist invasion of a Nigerian community.
VERDICT
The claim that the video shows a terrorist invasion of an Oyo community is MISLEADING. The video shows an incident that occurred in Mali.
