USMNT FIFA World Cup schedule: Times, dates, opponents and more – NBC4 Washington

The U.S. men’s national soccer team is gearing up for a FIFA World Cup on home soil.

The American squad is hosting the globe’s biggest soccer tournament for the first time since 1994, and this time around it is sharing those duties with Canada and Mexico.

Led by head coach Mauricio Pochettino and star Christian Pulisic, the USMNT is looking to improve on a Round of 16 exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. They will have more competition than ever, though, as the 2026 World Cup is the first in history to feature 48 teams.

Here’s a look at the USMNT’s path at the 2026 World Cup, its group and potential knockout matchups:

Here is a look at the USMNT’s group stage schedule for the 2026 FIFA World Cup:

  • Friday, June 12: USMNT vs. Paraguay, Los Angeles Stadium, 9 p.m. ET
  • Friday, June 19: USMNT vs. Australia, Seattle Stadium, 3 p.m. ET
  • Thursday, June 25: USMNT vs. Turkey, Los Angeles Stadium, 10 p.m. ET

The U.S. men’s national team is in Group D at the 2026 World Cup with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey.

Is the USMNT the favorite in Group D?

The USMNT has the highest FIFA world ranking out of the four Group D teams at No. 16. Turkey isn’t far behind at No. 22, Australia is next at No. 27 and Paraguay is the lowest at No. 40.

Potential USMNT knockout stage schedule

If the USMNT finishes first in Group D, it will play a Round of 32 match on Wednesday, July 1, at 8 p.m. ET against a third-place team (Group B/E/F/I/J) at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

If the USMNT finishes second in Group D, it will play a Round of 32 match on Friday, July 3, at 2 p.m. ET against the Group G runner-up at Dallas Stadium. Group G includes Belgium, Iran, Egypt and New Zealand.

Under the new 48-team World Cup format, eight of the 12 third-place finishers in the group stage will also advance to the Round of 32. If the Group D third-place team advances, it could play in any of the following three Round of 32 fixtures:

  • Monday, June 29: Group E winner vs. Group A/B/C/D/F third place, Boston Stadium, 4:30 p.m. ET
  • Tuesday, June 30: Group I winner vs. Group C/D/F/G/H third place, New York New Jersey Stadium, 5 p.m. ET
  • Friday, July 3: Group K winner vs. Group D/E/I/J/L third place, Kansas City Stadium, 9:30 p.m. ET

Germany, Ecuador, the Ivory Coast and Curaçao are in Group E. France, Senegal, Iraq and Norway are in Group I. Portugal, Colombia, Uzbekistan and Democratic Republic of the Congo are in Group K.
