The uncertainty surrounding the future of Rangers International FC General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, has been resolved after he confirmed he will remain at the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions.
Ezeaku made the declaration on Thursday amid widespread speculation over his future at the Enugu-based club following reports that he was considering stepping down from his role.
He disclosed that his decision to stay was reinforced after a crucial meeting with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Wednesday.
“I’m staying back and I have no plans to leave,” he stated.
The development is expected to bring stability to Rangers as the club prepares for a busy season, including the defence of its NPFL title and participation in the CAF Champions League.
Ilechukwu set for contract renewal
In another key development, Ezeaku confirmed that head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu will also remain at the club despite earlier speculation linking him with an exit.
According to him, the title-winning tactician is expected to sign a fresh one-year contract extension this weekend.
“Coach Ilechukwu will be in Lagos on Friday before arriving in Enugu on Saturday. By this weekend, he will be signing a new one-year contract extension to prepare the team for the CAF Champions League and the new season,” he said.
The renewal is seen as a major boost for Rangers as they aim to maintain continuity in technical leadership ahead of their continental campaign.
Club owners reject resignation move
Meanwhile, a fresh twist has emerged regarding Ezeaku’s resignation as Secretary of the Club Owners Association of Nigeria.
Although he had earlier tendered his resignation from the position, sources within the association confirmed that the move was strongly rejected by members.
Key stakeholders reportedly insisted that Ezeaku should continue in office, citing his contributions and leadership role within the body.
“The chairman and other members are not happy with Ezeaku’s decision to step down. They have collectively rejected the resignation and want him to remain in the position,” a source revealed.
Ezeaku, however, declined to comment when contacted on the development.
Rangers begin planning for new season
With stability returning to the management structure, Rangers have already started preparations for the upcoming season.
Reports indicate that the club is considering a pre-season training programme either in Abeokuta, Ogun State, or in selected African countries.
The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen the squad and ensure readiness for both domestic and continental competitions.
Focus shifts to NPFL and CAF campaigns
With Ezeaku staying in place and Ilechukwu set for a contract extension, Rangers are now focused on building a competitive squad capable of defending their NPFL crown.
The club is also targeting a strong showing in the CAF Champions League as they look to consolidate their status as one of Nigeria’s top football sides.
