US official holds Eid calls with Libyan leaders, urges unity

A senior US adviser for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, says he held separate phone calls with several Libyan leaders to mark Eid al-Adha, stressing the importance of national reconciliation and unity.

In a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, he said the discussions focused on the need to unify Libya’s institutions and promote peace, democracy and stability across the country, while reaffirming continued US support for the Libyan people.

According to the post, Boulos spoke with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Defence Minister Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi، Saddam Haftar, who is described by eastern authorities as a senior military figure and Belqasem Haftar, who heads a reconstruction fund in eastern Libya.l

He added that talks addressed the importance of building Libya’s future through an inclusive national process reflecting the aspirations of all regions and groups, and bringing together key political actors within a genuine partnership.

The discussions, he said, highlighted the need to strengthen state institutions and ensure broad participation in shaping the country’s future, in a way that serves the Libyan people and supports lasting stability.

Boulos reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Libya’s path towards peace, unity, democratic governance and sustainable prosperity, and expressed hope for continued cooperation to strengthen ties between the two countries.
