Two Kenyans Nabbed in Uganda After Killing Busia Boda Boda Rider

Two Kenyans wanted over the murder of a boda boda rider and the theft of his motorcycle in Busia County have been arrested in Uganda after days of a cross-border manhunt.

According to a police report, the two were arrested by Ugandan officers after they allegedly fled into the neighbouring country after committing the murder in Butula Constituency.

The Butula Constituency intelligence department revealed that the suspects are residents of the area, with one of them already being wanted by police over other criminal activities.

The police say the suspects allegedly assaulted the boda boda rider to death in Bujumba sub-location before making away with his motorcycle into Uganda.

Investigations further revealed that after crossing into Uganda, the suspects allegedly attacked another boda boda rider, leaving him with serious injuries before stealing his motorcycle and fleeing.

Ugandan security agencies launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of two of the three suspects believed to be involved in the cross-border crime spree.

Police also recovered the motorcycle that had been stolen from the Kenyan rider, while efforts are ongoing to trace the second motorcycle allegedly stolen from the Ugandan victim.

The suspects are expected to first face criminal charges in Uganda before being handed over to Kenyan authorities to answer to additional charges linked to the murder and motorcycle theft committed in Busia County.

The duo’s arrest comes amid a worrying rise in violent boda boda robberies and motorcycle theft cases across the country.

Just a day ago, the Wajir Law Courts sentenced two men to death after finding them guilty of violently robbing a boda boda rider and stealing his mobile phone and money from his digital wallet account.

Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Malesi convicted the two after ruling that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

In his judgment delivered on Monday, July 27, Magistrate Malesi said the witness testimonies and exhibits presented in court provided watertight evidence that justified both the conviction and the death sentence.

The court heard that on the night of November 13, 2025, the rider was riding along Wajir Township when two men posed as passengers before about five more accomplices emerged and surrounded him.

The gang, armed with knives, assaulted the rider, threatened to kill him and stole his mobile phone valued at Ksh30,000.

They then forced him to accompany them to a mobile money withdrawal shop, where they compelled him to reveal his mobile money account PIN before withdrawing Ksh15,000 from his account.

Although the complainant managed to escape and alert the mobile money shop agent, the attackers had already received Ksh10,000 in cash and forced the agent to transfer the remaining Ksh5,000 to another mobile number before fleeing.
