President Trump has promised strong action against Iran following missile attacks on U.S. military bases, escalating tensions in the region.

President Donald Trump has pledged to retaliate against Iran after the country targeted two U.S. military bases over the weekend, marking the first military exchange between the two nations in more than a month.
“It’s very limited. Look, they’re a failed nation. That doesn’t mean we won’t smack them. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said when asked by reporters in the Oval Office whether this signaled a return to war or a limited campaign.
The president said the U.S. intercepted missiles fired at two bases in Jordan. Iran claimed the attacks were in response to U.S. military strikes in the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. Central Command, those strikes were intended to prevent Iran from placing mines in the strait that could threaten commercial ships. Iran reported that two people were killed in the U.S. strikes.
Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which typically transports about one-fifth of the world’s oil, has slowed sharply, contributing to higher gas prices in the United States.
On social media, Trump shared what appeared to be an AI-generated video showing a U.S. military attack on Iran’s Kharg Island, a key oil installation.
The administration has announced plans to impose new economic sanctions on Iran every week, targeting the country as well as foreign banks and companies that facilitate its business operations.
