A Syrian delegation headed by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Libya, Samir Al-Shalabi, discussed ways to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with the head of Libya’s Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mohamed Al-Raed, during a meeting at the Union’s headquarters in Tripoli.
The talks addressed opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, vocational training and capacity building, as well as the transfer of Syrian expertise and skilled professionals. The two sides also discussed facilitating the movement of businesspeople and investors and strengthening ties between the private sectors and business institutions in Libya and Syria.
The meeting also addressed obstacles hindering bilateral trade, particularly difficulties in issuing visas to Syrian citizens and businesspeople, as well as customs procedures and fees imposed on Libyan imports to Syria. The two sides discussed possible mechanisms to facilitate the flow of goods and products between the two countries.
Al-Raed reviewed the federation’s activities and its role in supporting the private sector and stimulating the national economy. He also referred to a recent visit by a federation delegation to Syria, where meetings and discussions highlighted a shared desire to develop economic relations and expand areas of cooperation.
Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and working to turn the proposals discussed into practical agreements and programs aimed at increasing trade and investment, facilitating the movement of businesspeople and expertise, and strengthening the economic partnership between Libya and Syria.
