Switzerland Clinch Top Spot, Canada Make Hi…

Canada 2-1 Switzerland

Switzerland secured top spot in Group B at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating co-hosts Canada 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Both nations came into the encounter having secured their first wins, as Canada thrashed Qatar while Switzerland overcome Bosnia & Herzegovina.

As a result, a draw would have been enough to send both sides to the round of 32.

After a scoreless first half, the Swiss took the lead a minute after the halftime break thanks to a strike from Ruben Vargas.

The lead was doubled in the 57th minute as Johan Manzambi bagged his third goal of the competition after being set up by Breel Embolo.

Canada gave themselves a lifeline on 76 minutes when Promise David turned home a cross from Nathan Saliba, however Switzerland held on for the win.

The co-hosts still managed to qualify for the knockout stage for the first time in their history after finishing second.

Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-1 Qatar

Bosnia & Herzegovina finished third in Group B with a 3-1 win over Qatar, who have been eliminated.

Both sides came into the clash with one point to their name but also knowing would almost guarantee a spot among the eight third-place finishers.

The first half proved to be a lively affair as Bosnia raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Kerim Alajbegovic and an own goal from Mahmoud Abunada.

Qatar managed to pull a goal back three minutes before the interval courtesy of a strike from Hasan Al Haydos.

However, there would be no comeback for Qatar as Bosnia added a third goal with ten minutes remaining as Ermin Mahmic found the back of the net.

Bosnia currently sit top of the best third-place table with four points.
