Sunu Souba Leverages AI to Improve Hiring Efficiency in Senegal

Senegalian digital platform Sunu Souba is using artificial intelligence to improve recruitment by matching employers with job seekers more efficiently, as the country seeks solutions to persistent labor market challenges.

According to Senegal’s National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD), the country’s broad unemployment rate reached 23.3% in the fourth quarter of 2025. Consequently, digital tools that improve recruitment and labor market efficiency are attracting growing interest.

Developers Mouhammadou Dia and Abdou Ba created Sunu Souba within the think tank Framework for African Transformation and Impact (FATI).

The platform combines artificial intelligence and data science to improve alignment between employers’ recruitment needs and job seekers’ qualifications. Its founders said the platform aims to make recruitment faster, more accurate and more inclusive.

Unlike conventional job portals that primarily publish vacancies, Sunu Souba analyzes candidates’ skills and employers’ requirements to generate more relevant recommendations. Using machine learning algorithms, the platform identifies the profiles best suited for each position and directs job seekers toward opportunities that closely match their qualifications.

As a result, the solution seeks to reduce the persistent gap between available skills and employers’ needs, a mismatch that policymakers and businesses frequently identify as a major obstacle to employment. Moreover, by improving the quality of job matches, the platform aims to shorten recruitment timelines and facilitate workforce integration.

Sunu Souba received international recognition at the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The platform won the Champion title in the E-Employment category after competing against 90 finalists selected from 360 projects submitted worldwide.

The award comes as African countries increasingly digitize employment services. By combining data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve recruitment processes, Sunu Souba aims to make Senegal’s labor market more efficient while strengthening the connection between labor supply and employer demand.
