Politics

SUDAN’S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Abdel Aal Haroun, has highlighted the long standing relations between Sudan and Nigeria, saying the ties predated the independence of both countries.

Haroun said the relationship had evolved from historical interactions to formal diplomatic relations established in 1960.

He said the two countries had since developed mechanisms for cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres.

The ambassador commended Nigeria for its role in efforts to restore peace in Sudan, adding that Sudan was committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Nigeria.

He said Sudan would also deepen coordination with Nigeria on regional and international issues.

Haroun, who spoke on the latest developments in Sudan, accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing atrocities against civilians since the conflict began on April 15, 2023.

He said the Sudanese Armed Forces had recorded gains on several fronts, adding that government institutions and private businesses had resumed operations in Khartoum as security improved.

According to him, millions of people were returning daily to Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri.

The ambassador dismissed claims by the RSF and its supporters that conditions in the capital were deteriorating, describing such reports as false.(NAN)
