Sudan: 26 Dead in Separate Attacks in South Kordofan | Ratopati

Sudan. At least 26 people have died and dozens have been injured in two separate attacks in Sudan’s South Kordofan state.

According to the volunteer organization Sudan Doctors Network, more than 21 people, including women and children, were killed in an attack by fighters of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North in the Dabi and Luwairi areas, south and west of Kauda, on Thursday afternoon. Many others were injured in the incident.

In another incident on Friday morning, the organization said that five people, including a child, were killed and others injured by shelling carried out by fighters of the same group in the city of Dilling.

The Sudan Doctors Network condemned the attack on Dabi and Luwairi, stating that it was a violation of the ceasefire agreement reached at the end of August. The organization also accused targeting civilians.

According to medical sources from a rural hospital in Dabi, more than 20 bodies and 11 injured people were brought to the hospital. Civilians are leaving the area fearing a further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

According to an eyewitness in Dilling, about five civilians were killed and more than seven injured when mortar shells were fired into residential areas. The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North has not responded to the allegations. The group, founded in 2011, controls some areas in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

There has been a long-standing conflict between the government army, paramilitary forces, and rebel groups in Sudan’s Kordofan states. The widespread conflict, which began in April 2023, has now entered its fourth year. Thousands of people have died in this conflict, and millions have been displaced internally and externally.
