The Southern Stings versus the Gauteng Jaguars in the final clash provided the defining Telkom Netball League match of the day when the Stings took the game 53-51 to hand the Jaguars their first defeat of the season at the Durban University of Technology (Steve Biko Campus) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 26 April 2026.
Southern Stings prevailed in a tightly contested encounter, claiming a slim victory in a match that saw both teams evenly matched throughout. Stings took the opening quarter 13-12, establishing early momentum before Gauteng Jaguars fought their way back into contention.
Jaguars’ coach Rozanne Matthyse made a tactical adjustment in the second quarter, repositioning Phophi Nematangari from centre to wing defence and moving captain Tshina Mdau to wing attack. The change proved immediately effective, with Nematangari generating crucial intercepts to disrupt Stings’ attack. Despite Jaguars’ resurgence, Stings led 29-27 at halftime.
The third quarter remained fiercely contested, with Southern Stings coach Freda Kemp rotating her team strategically throughout the period. Stings extended their advantage to 49-43 heading into the final quarter.

The closing quarter proved decisive, with the final two minutes becoming a nail-biting affair. Gauteng Jaguars mounted a determined comeback, but three missed two-pointer chances proved costly, ultimately handing the advantage to Southern Stings and securing their 53-51 victory.
Earlier in the day, Mpumalanga Sunbirds faced Western Cape Tornados in a fierce Division 1 encounter that saw the rivals locked neck-and-neck for thirteen minutes before Tornados capitalised on late-quarter momentum and Telkom Supershot opportunities to lead 13-9 at the first quarter break.

Tornados pulled decisively away in the third quarter, effectively putting the match beyond reach despite tactical adjustments from Mpumalanga Sunbirds coach Faith Mobeng. Tornados’ clinical use of Supershot opportunities cemented their control, and they closed out a 58-42 victory.

Ultimately, it was North West Flames who prevailed 53-47, with coach Adine Adriaanse recording her sixth victory against Eastern Cape Aloes coach Zandile Njeza in their eighth career meeting.
