Southwest Airlines Is Bringing Back Its Nashville-Montego Bay Flight in March, With Saturday Service to Jamaica
Southwest Airlines is bringing back its seasonal nonstop service from Nashville to Montego Bay, Jamaica, on March 13, with Saturday flights returning for the spring travel season.
Jamaica is getting its nonstop Southwest connection from Nashville back next spring. Southwest Airlines is scheduled to resume seasonal Saturday service to Montego Bay on March 13, 2027, linking Nashville International Airport directly with Sangster International Airport.
The route covers 1,326 miles, and the scheduled flight is about 3 hours and 15 minutes, putting Jamaica’s biggest resort gateway within a single flight of Middle Tennessee. The service will operate once every Saturday, bringing back a route Southwest operated during a short seasonal run last spring.
It’s a useful return for western Jamaica, particularly because the Saturday schedule fits naturally with the seven-night vacations that remain a staple of Montego Bay, Rose Hall and Negril. It also comes as Nashville’s Caribbean network continues to grow, with Southwest adding Saturday flights to Aruba and St. Thomas on the same March 13 date.
The Nashville-Montego Bay Nonstop Is Coming Back
Southwest first launched the Nashville-Montego Bay nonstop on March 7, with Saturday flights operating during a limited spring window. The airline is now putting the seasonal route back on the schedule beginning March 13.
The returning service gives Nashville travelers a nonstop option that avoids a connection through Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale or another major gateway. If your trip follows the Saturday schedule, the route is particularly well suited to a full week in Jamaica.
Southwest lists the distance between Nashville and Montego Bay at 1,326 miles. The flight time puts Sangster within roughly the same travel window as many domestic leisure destinations from Tennessee, but with the beaches and resorts of western Jamaica waiting on the other end.
The Saturday-only frequency does require planning around the operating day. A Saturday departure and Saturday return is the simplest way to use the nonstop in both directions.
Why Montego Bay Works So Well From Nashville
Montego Bay is one of the Caribbean’s most versatile arrival points because several very different Jamaica vacations begin at the same airport.
Stay close to Sangster and you can base the trip around Montego Bay itself, with Doctor’s Cave Beach, Gloucester Avenue and a broad collection of all-inclusive and luxury resorts nearby. Head east and you reach Rose Hall, one of Jamaica’s major resort districts.
Go west and the road eventually takes you to Negril, Seven Mile Beach and the cliffs. The returning Southwest flight therefore works as a gateway not only to Montego Bay but to much of Jamaica’s western tourism corridor.
The short distance between Sangster and some of the area’s leading hotels makes the route especially convenient. Half Moon, one of Montego Bay’s signature luxury resorts, is about 10 minutes from the airport, according to the property.
The resort covers 400 acres along two miles of beachfront and includes golf, an equestrian center, the Fern Tree Spa, restaurants and private villas. It is close enough to Sangster that you can land in Jamaica and be at the resort soon afterward.
Half Moon has 210 rooms and suites and 19 villas across its accommodations. Its Eclipse section alone has 57 beachfront accommodations, along with an infinity-edge pool and its own restaurants and bars.
Eclipse at Half Moon reopened in April, restoring one of Montego Bay’s leading luxury hotel experiences ahead of the next winter season.
More Montego Bay Hotels Will Be Back by March
The returning Southwest service will also arrive after another wave of resort reopenings across western Jamaica.
Sandals Montego Bay is scheduled to reopen Dec. 18 after a major redevelopment. Nearby, the former Sandals Royal Caribbean will reopen on the same date with a new identity as Sandals Caribbean Cay.
The work is part of a $200 million investment across three Sandals resorts in Jamaica, including Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Caribbean Cay and Sandals South Coast. By the time Southwest’s Nashville service returns in March, those hotels will once again be part of the island’s available room inventory.
Sandals Caribbean Cay is adding 84 rooms as part of the transformation. The resort’s private-island component remains central to the experience, while the new name gives the property a distinct identity within the Montego Bay portfolio.
Royalton is restoring another major share of the region’s all-inclusive inventory. Royalton Blue Waters Montego Bay and Hideaway at Royalton Blue Waters are scheduled to reopen Sept. 15, following the return of Royalton properties in Negril.
The five Royalton reopenings add more choices across Montego Bay and Negril. All are part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resorts portfolio.
A completely new hotel is scheduled to join the market shortly before the Southwest route returns, too.
UNICO 18°77° Montego Bay is slated to open March 1, less than two weeks before the first Nashville flight of the spring schedule. The adults-only all-inclusive resort is planned with 451 rooms, including swim-out accommodations, along with a large spa and multiple food-and-beverage concepts.
The sequence gives March an unusually active calendar for the destination: a major new resort at the beginning of the month followed by the return of nonstop Southwest service from Nashville.
A Route Built Around the Weeklong Jamaica Vacation
The Saturday frequency makes the flight most useful when you plan the hotel around the airline schedule.
A full week in Montego Bay is the easiest version. You can stay around Rose Hall or closer to the city, spend the trip between the beach and resort, and keep transfers on both ends relatively short.
Negril works well with the same schedule. Seven Mile Beach offers everything from small hotels to large all-inclusive resorts, while the cliffs south of the beach give you swimming spots, restaurants and sunset bars.
The longer transfer from Sangster matters less over seven nights than it would on a quick weekend. A Saturday-to-Saturday trip leaves enough time to settle into Negril without feeling that too much of the vacation disappeared into the drive.
You can also divide the trip between the two areas. A few nights in Montego Bay followed by several nights in Negril gives you two distinctly different Jamaica experiences while using the same airport.
Southwest Keeps Building Nashville’s Caribbean Network
The return of Montego Bay is only one piece of Southwest’s expanding Nashville schedule.
The airline is also launching Saturday-only Nashville service to Aruba and St. Thomas on March 13. Those flights join existing Caribbean and tropical routes from Nashville including San Juan and Punta Cana.
Southwest’s wider Nashville Caribbean expansion gives Middle Tennessee a notably broad range of warm-weather options from a single airport.
Montego Bay is different from the genuinely new Aruba and St. Thomas routes, however. Southwest already tested the Nashville-Jamaica market with its limited seasonal service last spring; next March, the airline is bringing that connection back.
The return suggests the carrier still sees value in a route built around spring leisure demand. A weekly schedule lets Southwest serve the market during a strong vacation period without committing aircraft to year-round service.
What It Costs and When to Go
March falls near the end of Jamaica’s peak winter season, when demand from the United States remains strong and spring-break travel begins to pick up.
Airfares will vary by week as the schedule fills, particularly because the nonstop operates only once each week. Travelers who want to avoid a connection in both directions will have the most flexibility if they choose the Saturday flights first and build the hotel reservation around them.
Hotel pricing varies widely across the Montego Bay area. Half Moon occupies the luxury end of the spectrum, while the wider destination includes large all-inclusives, adults-only resorts and more affordable hotels.
The reopening calendar will also expand those choices before March. Sandals, Royalton and other returning properties will give visitors more room categories and resort styles than were available during the immediate period after Hurricane Melissa.
The new UNICO adds another option just before Southwest’s seasonal return. Its March 1 debut will put a new adults-only all-inclusive into the market in time for passengers arriving on the Nashville route later that month.
Montego Bay Is Back on Nashville’s Spring Map
The important distinction is simple: this isn’t Nashville’s first Southwest flight to Jamaica.
The airline launched the seasonal route last spring, operated it for a limited period and is now bringing it back for another spring run beginning March 13.
The returning flight will arrive at a very different moment for Montego Bay, with more resorts reopened, a 451-room UNICO making its debut and western Jamaica continuing to rebuild its tourism inventory.
And from Nashville, the trip will once again be straightforward: one Saturday flight, a little more than three hours in the air, and Montego Bay on the other end.
