South Windsor family fosters dogs rescued from Iran war – NBC Connecticut

An animal lover in South Windsor is fostering three dogs that were rescued from the Iran war.

Back in January, Jessica Waterhouse said her son, Jacob, called her from the military base in Jordan about puppies they found in the desert.

When he asked her if she wanted to foster them, she said yes right away.

“You could hear it in the voice that these dogs just brought so much joy to the soldiers over there,” she said.

Through Paws of War, the puppies were vaccinated and quarantined before coming to Connecticut. The nonprofit rescues and rehabilitates dogs and cats “in dire straits, often plucking them from the brink of despair and giving them a new chance at life,” according to its website.

Animals are paired with veterans, first responders and Gold Star Families.

“I felt like when I was petting them, I’m like, oh, my son was petting these dogs,” Waterhouse said. “All three are going to soldiers that served in my son’s unit. And I’m hoping that because they’re local, that I will be able to keep in touch with all of the pups and watch them grow and develop and become more confident.”

One of the dogs isn’t going too far. She is staying with Jacob, who returned home Wednesday after nine months of serving in the Air National Guard.

Waterhouse said her son is naming the dog after the place the two met, Jordan.
