South Sudanese Lawyers Participate in Pan African Lawyers Union Conference in Cairo.

About six South Sudanese lawyers, including a woman, are participating in the 16th Annual Conference of the Pan African Lawyers Union, PALU, in Cairo, Egypt.
The second day of the three-day conference is focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in Africa’s justice systems and the legal profession.
The conference is being held under the theme, “The African Lawyer in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Leveraging Technology to Achieve a Just and Prosperous Africa.”
It brings together lawyers and legal professionals from across Africa to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities facing the legal profession.
Discussions are being held under two main streams, covering issues including artificial intelligence and good governance, legal frameworks for the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, protection of children online, natural resources governance, the just energy transition, and the international financial architecture.
Speaking from Cairo, the Chairperson of the South Sudan Bar Association, Advocate Arop Malueth Manoon, said South Sudanese lawyers are actively participating in the conference and its various discussions.
Manoon said he also attended the first meeting of the PALU Council, where members discussed and adopted policies for the continental lawyers’ body.
“We have come to Cairo to participate in the 16th Annual Conference of the Pan African Lawyers Union, which is being held this year in Cairo, Egypt. As a council member of the Pan African Lawyers Union representing South Sudan, I attended the first meeting of the council members, where we passed some of the policies of this body,” he said.
“We officially opened the conference yesterday. It was also attended by some members of the South Sudan Bar Association. The legal profession conference is offering a lot of panel discussions on the subject matter of the theme and other issues relating to the protection of the legal profession.”
Manoon said the conference is providing lawyers with an opportunity to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal profession, while also discussing ways to protect and prepare the profession for emerging technological changes.
