South Africa ease past Zimbabwe to claim tri-series glory

WINDHOEK  –  South Africa produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 48 runs and lift the T20I tri-series trophy at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Sunday. Put into bat, the Proteas posted an imposing 205-5 in their allotted 20 overs, with Jordan Hermann leading an aggressive top-order display. The opener struck 53 from just 29 balls, smashing nine boundaries and a six to provide South Africa with the platform for a formidable total.

Connor Esterhuizen added 32 off 23 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes, while Dewald Brevis matched the score with a brisk 32 from 23 balls, also hitting two fours and two sixes. Rubin Hermann chipped in with a valuable 27 off 16 deliveries, striking three boundaries and a six, before Duan Jansen provided the late impetus with 23 from 14 balls to take South Africa beyond the 200-run mark.

Zimbabwe struggled to match the required scoring rate and were eventually bowled out for 157 in 18 overs. Brad Evans provided the major resistance with an unbeaten 56 off 31 balls, hitting four boundaries and four sixes, but lacked sufficient support to carry his side close to the target. Kundai Matigimu contributed 19 from 11 balls, including two sixes, while captain Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl scored 16 and 13 respectively.

South Africa’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the chase, with Jansen and Bjorn Fortuin claiming three wickets apiece. Eathan Bosch took two wickets, while Kwena Maphaka and Prenelan Subrayen picked up one each. For Zimbabwe, Newman Nyamhuri and Brad Evans were the leading wicket-takers, claiming two wickets apiece, while Raza took one.

South Africa’s victory underlined their superiority with both bat and ball, as the Proteas combined aggressive strokeplay with disciplined bowling to close out the final comfortably.
