MOGADISHU, August 23, 2026 — Somalia’s House Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and a committee representing opposition lawmakers concluded talks in Mogadishu on Sunday, reaching an agreement aimed at resolving a dispute that has divided the lower house.
The talks focused on advancing the work of the House of the People, strengthening cooperation among lawmakers and easing political tensions that have affected parliamentary proceedings.
According to a statement issued by the House of the People, the two sides agreed that parliament should remain neutral toward all political sides.
They also agreed that every lawmaker has the right to freely express their views and opinions while respecting the provisions of the House’s internal rules.
