Somalia announces grade 12 exam results, with 93% of students passing

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Ministry of Education on Saturday announced the results of the 2025-2026 national Grade 12 examination, with 40,037 of the 42,916 students who sat for the exam passing, a 93% pass rate.

The ministry said 2,809 students failed the examination.

Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir said students who missed the exam for documented reasons will be given an opportunity to take it at a later date.

The minister also praised students, parents, teachers and the wider public for supporting the national examination process and reventing
the leakage of exam papers.

“The exam papers, which consisted of several million, were not stolen and spread on social media, and this was due to the efforts ade,”
Farah said.

He said the government spent $1,268,619 to administer the examination, describing the expenditure as an investment funded by Somali
taxpayers.

Students registered with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) can now obtain their examination certificates online without traveling to the Education Ministry, Farah said.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre congratulated students who passed the examination and spoke by telephone with the three highest-scoring students and their parents.

“I congratulate the teachers, parents and the Somali people as a whole, particularly the country’s education community. Congratulations. A nation is built and transformed through its educated generation. Whenever our people become educated, we move closer to positive change,” Hamza said.

The prime minister also pledged that the federal government would cover the full cost of education for the three top-performing students.

The students are: Mohamed Isse Daahir Yuusuf of Hawl-Wadaag School in Mogadishu, Banadir, Farhia Farah Egal of Ahmed Binu Hambal School in Kismayo, Jubaland, and Amina Khalid Adalla Ahmed of Imaamu Shaafici (Sh. Madar) School in Mogadishu, Banadir.

Hamza praised the students for their achievement and credited their success to their hard work, as well as the support of their parents, teachers and the wider education community.

The release of the results marks a major milestone for thousands of Somali students completing secondary education and preparing to
pursue higher education, vocational training or employment.
