Egypt explores agricultural investment in Uzbekistan

Egypt’s Daltex, a company specializing in fruit and vegetable production and processing, has held online talks with the administration of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region to explore investment opportunities in agricultural production and processing, including potential joint ventures oriented toward export markets.

The discussions centered on possible projects within the Surkhon-Agro Free Economic Zone in Sherabad district, a site covering around 940 hectares that regional officials are promoting as a platform for agribusiness and processing investment. Surkhandarya authorities also presented land plots across 14 districts of the region as potential sites for cultivation, highlighting potato, grape, and broader horticultural production as areas of opportunity.

Daltex representative Muhammad Mustafa pointed to potato production and other crops with strong domestic demand as areas of interest for the company. On citrus, Mustafa took a more reserved position, noting that growing citrus either in open fields or under protected cultivation could require substantial investment given the region’s winter climate conditions.

The two sides agreed to assess the feasibility of establishing joint ventures that would combine fruit and vegetable cultivation with processing facilities, with a share of output potentially directed to export markets. The Uzbek side is expected to supply Daltex with additional information on available agricultural land and investment conditions.

The next step in the process is a planned visit by a Daltex delegation to Surkhandarya, where company representatives will hold B2B meetings with local entrepreneurs and inspect potential project sites on the ground.
