The signing of Bulelani Sigomoshe gives Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou options in different positions, making him a player capable of making a big impact at the club.

It appears Pirates are planning on using him in the back four, having announced him as a right back, but Sigomoshe played in advanced positions for Milford FC. He has an ability to play on both wings, but stood up mostly as a right wing for the KZN outfit, using his pace and power to get to the byline and whip in crosses into the box for his teammates.

He can protect the ball quite well, and his energy allows him to cover the entire flank, making him a good option for the Buccaneers in the CAF Champions League as well.

Why Pirates Need Sigomoshe at Right Back

Prior to this signing, Kamogelo Sebelebele was Pirates’ only recognised right back – a situation that was never sustainable across a gruelling multi-competition season. What makes Sebelebele’s story compelling is how he got there: he spent the majority of his time at TS Galaxy in advanced roles, yet has flourished as a right back under Ouaddou, cementing himself as first choice in recent months.

Pirates have a number of wingers to call on in their current squad, so Sigomoshe is likely to be played mostly as a right back, competing with Sebelebele.

Milford Coach Saw This Coming – and Made Sure His Player Was Ready

Milford coach Xanti Pupuma revealed that he always knew that Sigomoshe was going to leave. The player nicknamed ‘Ace’ was one of their outstanding players on their way to winning promotion last season, so he had already attracted attention from back then.

He did not feature for Milford in the first three matches due to an injury he picked up during the playoffs last season, but recovered to play the team’s last four matches before making the move to the Buccaneers.

“We always knew that ‘Ace’ was going to go. He had a great season last season. It was just a matter of time. He had a knock against Magesi (during the playoffs), which delayed his pre-season,” he revealed during a press conference following the match between Milford and Durban City.

“We had to sort him out. I wouldn’t have let him go with the injury, so we had to sort him out and there are a few others that we were expecting to go with the big teams, so we are prepared for that. We are not going to hold anyone back, but the offer and the deal has to be good for my player and I need to see that they are going to look after the boy.”
