Vodafone Egypt, Cassava Technologies Partner — FSX Business
Vodafone Egypt and Cassava Technologies have partnered to develop what they describe as Egypt’s first AI factory, providing locally hosted computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence applications and positioning the country to expand its sovereign AI capabilities.
The facility will enable government institutions and businesses to develop and operate AI applications locally, with data hosted and processed in Egypt in line with regulatory requirements. The partnership will use NVIDIA accelerated computing technologies through Cassava Technologies, which is an NVIDIA cloud partner in Africa.
The companies said the infrastructure will provide GPU-as-a-Service, allowing organisations to access high-performance computing capacity for AI model training and inference without having to build the underlying infrastructure themselves.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen data security and control by enabling local data residency, while supporting the development of AI applications across government and key industries. The companies said the project could also help attract investment, support growth in the digital economy and create jobs in technology and innovation.
“This is a pivotal step in Vodafone Egypt’s technology journey,” said Mahmoud El-Khatib, vice-president of enterprise business at Vodafone Egypt. He said the partnership would strengthen Egypt’s AI infrastructure and provide locally hosted technologies while supporting the country’s digital sovereignty and efforts to attract investment in advanced technologies.
Ahmed El Beheiry, group chief technology and AI officer and chief executive of Cassava AI, said the partnership was intended to give Egyptian businesses infrastructure to develop AI technologies rather than remain primarily consumers of global technology.
The partnership will also provide organisations with access to training and enablement programmes within the NVIDIA ecosystem, aimed at developing local AI skills and improving the ability of organisations to deploy and manage AI systems.
The companies said the initiative comes as countries seek to complement global public cloud services with sovereign computing capacity and AI-optimised infrastructure hosted locally.
For Egypt, the project is expected to support the development of AI-focused data-centre infrastructure and strengthen the country’s position as a regional technology hub, according to the companies.
The AI factory forms part of Vodafone Egypt’s investment plans for the Egyptian market. The company said it plans to invest more than EGP 20 billion during the current fiscal year, following investments of more than EGP 125 billion over its 28 years of operations in the country.
