Shooting Stars, Rivers United, Rangers, El-Kanemi begin CAF campaigns

All four clubs representing Nigeria in the 2026/27 CAF inter-club campaigns will be on duty this weekend.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) will kick off the continental campaign when they host CS Sfaxien of Tunisia tomorrow in a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round first-leg fixture.

The game is scheduled to kick off at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, at 4 pm.

Former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rivers United will also begin their CAF Champions League campaign tomorrow when they face FC San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire.

The game is billed to start at 5 pm at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San-Pédro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Reigning NPFL champions Enugu Rangers will also play their home game in Abeokuta when they host AS Sobemap of Benin Republic on Sunday at 4 pm in a CAF Champions League preliminary-round fixture.

Also on Sunday, reigning Federation Cup champions El-Kanemi Warriors will battle UDIB of Guinea-Bissau at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, at 4 pm in a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round first-leg fixture.

Meanwhile, Enugu Rangers technical adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has said his side will correct the mistakes from their NPFL opener ahead of the continental clash with Sobemap.

Rangers settled for a 1-1 draw with Katsina United in their opening league game last Sunday.

“We missed many chances against Katsina United, but we are working to correct that deficiency before the continental game against Sobemap,” he said.

“It’s going to be crazy because the management of Sobemap are here to monitor our game. But there is no problem because we will not give up on our boys,” Ilechukwu said.

Should Rangers, the 1977 African Cup Winners’ Cup champions, progress, they will meet the winners of the fixture between ASN Nigelec of Niger Republic and MC Alger in the next round.
