Senegal’s Mbaye, who scored World Cup goal against Mbappe’s France, joins Aston Villa from PSG

Aston Villa has signed young Senegalese winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a report fee of £47 million (USD 63 million), both clubs confirmed on Tuesday.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain. The Senegal international, a bright and exciting young prospect who scored for his country (against France) at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, joins on a permanent transfer,” said the Premier League club in an official statement.

Mbaye made 42 appearances in all competitions for PSG since his debut at the age of 16 in 2024. With the French club, he won two Champions League titles, two European Super Cups, two French League titles, one Coupe de France and one Intercontinental Cup.

He has played 15 times for Senegal. Four of those appearances came in this summer’s FIFA World Cup, during which he netted against France to become the youngest African player to score in the men’s tournament.

Mbaye is the latest new recruit for Villa.

Since winning the Europa League last season to end its 30-year trophy drought, Villa has sold Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ollie Watkins, Lucas Digne, Emiliano Martinez and Ezri Konsa.

Villa boss Unai Emery has brought in Taylor Harwood-Bells, Alejandro Garnacho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Johan Manzambi, Zion Suzuki, Joao Gomes, Leon Goretzka, Matteo Ruggeri and Nicolas Jackson.

Villa lost 1-2 to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final.

It started the new Premier League season with defeats against Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal. The club will face Hull City on Saturday.
